Beauty is a word that crosses all continents. Most people want to look their best. Make-up and pretty clothes can not always cover up the ravages from a cold, a late night bash, or a painful break-up. The tips that follow may help work through some of these emergencies.
Even models and celebrities keep some of the following beauty tips around to help when they wake up not quite ready to face the camera or grace another magazine cover.
Because models often start their careers at an early age they quickly look for a way to get rid of blemishes. One trick of models is to use Visine on a cotton swab held on the red spot for about 60 seconds. This really takes “the red out”. Concealer or a little extra foundation continues the camouflage.
Beauty in the Medicine Cabinet
Toothpaste is also another great trick for diminishing a pimple. A little placed on the spot will shrink it up in a few minutes. Calamine lotion is also beneficial for this. Last but not least an ice cube placed directly over a pimple and followed up with some hydrocortisone cream is also a great tip.
Bad breath can ruin any get-together, here are some tips for when the breath mints are not available. Parsley, the green stuff on a dinner plate, has been known as a great breath refresher. It should be chewed and does not have to be swallowed. Parsley has chlorophyll the same basic ingredient found in Clorets. Water with a slice of lemon or just chewing a piece of lemon will also kick bad breath to the curb. Apples, some ginger, basil or even mint leaves will also freshen up mouth odors
Puffy eyes from an all night party can be relieved by putting a spoon in the freezer for a few seconds and then placing it on each eye. Or a quicker fix can be accomplished by opening the freezer door holding the face inside and counting to 100. This is an old makeup trick used on models that come to the shoot looking a bit groggy.
Tea bags are also great puff reducers. They should be held under hot water first, then cold water and placed on each eye for 5 minutes.
To bring color to a washed out complexion a great tip is to fill a basin with cold water, 20 ice cubes and 3 tablespoons of witch hazel. The mixture should be splashed onto the face for about 30 seconds or 10 good splashes.
When time is not an option another way to brighten up a dragging face is to apply moisturizer, sweeping upwards while pinching the skin from t he cheek to the jaw line. This should be done in an up-and-down movement from the neck all the way to the forehead. It should also be done from the chin area to the hairline.
Another quick method is to put ice cubes into a plastic bag and run the bag over the face until color returns.
Help for Hair Problems
When “hat head” seems to be an issue it can be corrected by spraying the hair with a little water and then tousling and shaking until all the ridges disappear.
Static hair is often a problem; one great model trick is to run a fabric softener sheet over the hair until the static is lessened.
When time has prevented a good hair washing one way to trick people is by dusting it with powder or cornstarch and brushing it through. There are also products on the market created especially for this purpose but cornstarch works just as well and is a lot less expensive. Large headbands or tie-back clips are great accessories to keep on hand for days when hair is not co-operating.
When roots are showing and there is no time to color, colored chalk works well as a temporary cover. Chalk works but not crayons. With dark hair instead of chalk, mascara can also be used as a temporary root touch-up.
To cover up tired eyes try using navy mascara instead of harsh black and brown. If there is no navy mascara, hand-dip a regular mascara wand into blue eye shadow to tint the lashes. The blue brings out the white in the eyes helping the wearer look refreshed.
Finally a great tip that most models know is how egg whites are a mini face lift. Beat one egg white until frothy. Apply to face and neck. After it dries rinse gently. This will temporarily tighten up the pores and give the face a tighter, youthful appearance.
Looking the best possible helps people feel better about themselves and the world around them. While true beauty resides inside, it is the outside that is presented first to co-workers, family and even strangers. By starting the day off looking good, feeling good cannot be too far behind.
