Brenda Gargus

Brenda has been a teacher of at - risk students for 29 years. She has taught in many different environments from hospital settings and at the college level.. For the past 17 years she has been the behavior specialist for a hub unit in Jefferson County schools in Alabama. This unit provides students with behavior and emotional issues a waystation to find solutions for their problems.

Using her psychology degree , experience at raising 5 kids, and a strong educational background she has provided stategies to help students with emotional and behavior issues find success in their school day.

She has also published several articles to help parents and teachers find the best avenue to reach troubled kids. One of her articles " Why Positive Reinforcement Works" published by Family Education.com has been used in classrooms for several years to set up Token Economy Systems and encourage appropriate behavior. She is a Topic Editor for Special Needs, Inter-Child Relationships, and Children's Music. She is also a feature writer for the Education page on Suite 101.

In 2001 she won the Keymaker Award for Teaching . She has also won several grants in the past two years to help fund many of her programs.

In her spare time she enjoys painting, reading and writing. She also loves music and discovering new bands to share with her class. Being raised in the south, she also enjoys traveling and seeing different cultures.
